Private Lessons for Fearful (Anxious) Fidos
These lessons are for the dog that can’t relax in the presence of other dogs or around people in public, expressing itself in a timid, skittish manner.
Lesson Goals:
These lessons are designed for the dog who is very anxious in new situations or around new people or dogs, and reacts to new situations, people, or other dogs by showing fearful behaviors like trembling, hiding, snapping, or fear biting. The lessons are aimed at building confidence through the use of positive reinforcement and counter-conditioning / desensitization. The goal is to increase overall social confidence and sense of security in new situations.
Lesson requirements
- All dogs must have Rabies and DHPP vaccinations or titers. Proof of vaccinations or titers must be brought to first class. Dogs without proof of vaccinations or titers will not be able to participate. Pre-registration and pre-payment required.
- Pre-registration with pre-payment is required.
- Handler must fill out behavior profile form online.
- Due to the nature of these session, we ask that only adult handlers attend class.
- PLEASE NOTE: Due to the complex nature of behavior issues in dogs, it make take several private lessons with your dog, and also some work on your part at home, in order to see an improvement in your dog’s behavior. Your first lesson is likely to be more of a consultation, where the behavior consultant takes the time to get to know you and your dog.
- ALSO NOTE: If the problem behavior is specific to your home environment, or is pack-related or family-related, an InHome Consultation is recommended. We have recently expanded our service area for InHome Consultations. Please see this page for more information.
