AKC Fetch Tests

AKC Fetch Tests

The American Kennel Club has launched a program called AKC Fetch for dog owners to be able to earn titles according to their dog’s ability to retrieve. It’s a fun, multi-level program, that showcases a dog’s ability to bring back a ball or a bumper. All breeds, including All-Americans (Canine Partners) can participate.

The Novice Level: The dog must retrieve a ball, bumper or toy from a distance of 30 feet away from the handler. The dog must navigate past 4 obstacles (usually boxes) to find the toy and bring it back to the handler. This is repeated, for a total of 3 retrieves per test.

The Intermediate Level: The dog must retrieve a ball, bumper or toy from a distance of 50 feet away from the handler. The dog must navigate past 8 obstacles This is repeated for a total of 4 retrieve per test.

The Advanced Level: The dog must retrieve a ball or bumper that is dropped or thrown behind a visual barrier, 70 feet away. There are 3 visual barriers, called blinds. The dog must do 2 single retrieves and 2 double retrieves.

The Retriever Level: The dog must retrieve a ball or bumper that is dropped or thrown behind blinds. The dog must do 1 triple retrieve and 2 double retrieves.
